For the last 18 years significant research has shown that tooth
clenching is a major factor in both tension and migraine headaches.
It has also been shown that if the force of clenching can be reduced
then the incidence and intensity of headaches can be reduced.
In the 1990’s Dr James Boyd developed a dental appliance, the
NTI-tss, that reduces this clenching force by about 75%. In a multi
center clinical trial, the NTI-tss device was shown to significantly
reduce or eliminate migraine and migraine-associated pain. Some of
the results of the clinical trials are as follows –

-
82% of the Nti-tss users had a 77% reduction of migraine events.
-
The need for medication to rescue migraine sufferers from their
pain was reduced by 46.8%.
-
When used as directed there were no side effects.
-
Episodes of nausea were reduced by 78%
-
Light and sound sensitivity episodes were reduced by 66%
In June 2001 the FDA approved the NTI-tss for the prevention of
medically diagnosed migraines. By 2003 over 500,000 patients had
used the device to help control there headaches. Today over 8,000
dentists all over world have used the NTI-tss to help their patients
and estimates are that well over 1 million of these appliances have
been made.
In our office we have fabricated several hundred of these appliances
and have been very impressed with the results. The results that we
have seen are very similar to the clinical trials. We have also
found that over 70% of our patients who wear the NTI-tss been
successful in either significantly reducing or eliminating their
headaches.
If
you or someone you know is suffering from tension or migraine
headaches and are interested in trying the NTI-tss, the first step
is to set up a consultation appointment. At this appointment we will
check for any telltale signs of tooth clenching and get a better
idea if this therapy could help. If you would like any additional
information
www.headacheprevention.com is an excellent website to
check out.
The NTI-tss is quite small, most people find it quite easy to wear,
and is usually worn only at night during sleeping. The total cost of
NTI-tss therapy is under $500 and we have found that some insurance
plans cover a portion of this cost.
